Closing the Northern Ireland Loophole: A Call to Protect Britain’s Honey Bees
Since 2021, over 22,000 honey bee queens have entered Great Britain via Northern Ireland, bypassing standard biosecurity checks. This loophole leaves UK beekeeping vulnerable to devastating pests like Small Hive Beetle and Tropilaelaps mites. Our new petition calls for urgent action: full inspections, proper tracking, reinstatement of bee inspectors in NI, and a shift toward local bee breeding. Protecting our bees means closing this loophole now.
